Veteran comedian and entertainer Bob Hope received an honorary knighthood at a reception at the British Embassy in Washington DC.
He did not comment following the presentation by the British Ambassador Sir Christopher Meyer.
Among those present were members of Mr Hope's family, including his children, Anthony, Linda and Kelly, and grandchildren Zachary and Miranda.
The award from the Queen was announced in February by Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair during a visit to the US.
