In campaign videos, monologues and debates, Liberal Democratic Party of Russia leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky has again demonstrated his talent for using incendiary rhetoric. Notably, hardly any of it has been directed against acting President Vladimir Putin. Instead, Zhirinovsky has continued to assail his favorite targets, "communists" and "democrats". Zhirinovsky blames the Communists for a ruinous 70-year rule and charges that Gennadii Zyuganov does not even want to be in power, since his party gave up without a fight in 1991.
