The remarkable international success of Martin McDonagh's first play The Beauty Queen of Leenane has proved a personal triumph for veteran actress Anna Manahan.
One of the most respected performers in Irish theatre - the title role of John B Keane's play Big Maggie, staged at Birmingham Rep a few years ago, was originally written for her - she created the role of the mother, Mag Folan, when The Beauty Queen was premiered by Druid Theatre Company in Galway early in 1996.
