IT'S the 21st century and there is no shortage of pundits ready to tell us that boxing is on the way out. So what's new?
Back in January 1900 the New York State Governor - and soon to be President of the USA - Theodore Roosevelt repealed the Horton Law, which had legalised boxing.
The new century's first world title fight came on January 9, when Terry McGovern KO'd Canadian George Dixon in eight rounds, scoring eight knockdowns in the final round.

...Former speedy Ashburton pacer La Motta left New Zealand for North America on Monday. The five-year-old In The Pocket gelding has been sold to successful New Jersey trainer, and expatriate kiwi, Kelvin Harrison. La Motta won seven of his 20 starts.
