Researchers reported that CpG oligodeoxynucleotides (CpG-ODN) reduced allergic asthma in mice and may be useful in the treatment of allergic asthma in humans.
Allergic asthma is asthma that is triggered by allergens such as pollens, molds, animal dander, dust mites, and cockroaches. CpG-ODN helps facilitate Th1-like responses.
Previous research has demonstrated that CpG-ODN inhibits antigen-induced sensitization, airway inflammation, and airway hyperreactivity in experimental animal models. This study sought to explore the possible therapeutic effect of CpG-ODN on allergic airway responses.
