As the outsourcing trend in high-tech manufacturing industries continues to grow, purchasing professionals are being entrusted with the responsibility of finding the best contract manufacturing partners for their companies.
Increasingly, it's purchasing's job to evaluate the capabilities of contract manufacturers (CMs) and recommend which ones their companies should use. In most cases, purchasing either selects contract manufacturers or is part of a team that chooses CMs. After the manufacturer is selected, often it is purchasing's job to monitor the performance of the CM.
