There are growing fears in Lausanne that many of the 22 international sports federations currently operating from Switzerland, most of them based in the Vaudois capital because of the presence there of the International Olympic Committee, may pack their bags and leave unless Berne grants them special fiscal status similar to the international organisations in Geneva.
Lausanne Mayor Jean-Jacques Shut makes no secret of his anxiety: "We are at a crossroads," he states.
