For the second year in succession, foreign residents have pushed the population of Lausanne above the 125,000 mark after years of decline. The non-Swiss residents of the Vaudois capital now represent more than 35% of the population, a new record. New arrivals and asylum seekers were mainly responsible for the climb. There were 2,853 asylum seekers last year compared with 1,799 the previous year.
