Jack Scott, whose radical approach to sports and athletes stunned and angered the American sports establishment for several decades, died of cancer on Feb. 6 at the age of 57. Scott's St. Louis connection was as an adviser to Dave Meggyesy, the Football Cardinals' linebacker whose book, "Out of Their League," caused considerable agitation.
Meggyesy, a former Syracuse standout, criticized brutality and racism, among other problems with the Cardinals; he and his teammate, Rick Sortun, a guard from the University of Washington, were the "radicals" for the Big Red.
Scott's criticism, which led former Vice-President Spiro T. Agnew to call him a "guru from ...
