One person who shouldn't be running for the presidency is Maire Geoghegan Quinn.
She left politics in a blaze of publicity earlier this year because she wanted to keep her family out of the limelight.
She was aggrieved over articles written about one of her teenage sons. She felt it was a gross invasion of privacy and that her children should not have to suffer as a result of her being in the spotlight.
Many sympathised with Maire and there was widespread criticism of the media.
