t all started in March 1994 with an advert in the entertainment weekly The Stage: "Are you streetwise, ambitious, dedicated?" it read. Hundreds of wannabe pop stars replied. Five were chosen and the Spice Girls were born. Well, almost.
The first band was actually called Touch and didn't include Emma Bunton. She replaced Michelle Stephenson - now known as "Unlucky Spice" - in July that year and the band got a new name, the single word Spice.
