The hoped-for high street spending slow-down failed to materialise in retail sales figures yesterday, keeping the spectre of further rate rises in the minds of the market.
But despite the potential uncertainty that would normally bring, the FTSE pulled off a robust performance.
However, a dipping on the Dow proved the real undoing for shares, and as Wall Street slid lower, the FTSE followed to end on 5013.1, up 36.7.
