Charlie Chaplin did it at 90, Clint Eastwood and PJ Proby did it past bus-pass age. And this week Anthony Quinn, age 81, and Melvyn Hayes, age 61, have joined the club: they proudly announced that they are going to become new (or should we say old?) fathers.
The immediate public reaction to this is as predictable as it is annoying. It's all gung-ho, nudge-nudge, wink-wink - for which we should simply read, heh-heh! There's lead in the old pencil yet!
