Mill Budgets in France Not Keeping Up With the Joneses
French textile manufacturers continue to spend on new equipment proportionately less than the Italians or the West Germans, and it seems unlikely that new fiscal incentives being considered by the government here will change that equation.
The French industry's umbrella organization, the Union des Industries Textiles, is lobbying to ensure that the country's fiscal authorities will not impose penalties if a textile firm decides to amortize the cost of new equipment in three years instead of six years and eight months, as has been the practice here for more than 30 years.
