"The opportunity to live several lives'
I seemed fated for acting. I used to do plays at school-- an activity I found myself in without quite knowing why. After I did poorly on exams two years running, the headmaster suggested I go to the Royal Academy and audition. I didn't know there was such a place, but my parents didn't object. I went for two terms before it dawned on me that acting could be my life. If that hadn't happened, I probably would have been a bookie like my dad, because I knew nothing else.
