Built in 1962 by Snamprogetti of ENI group, the Bizerte refinery is operated by Societe Tunisienne des Industries de Raffinage (STIR). The plant is operating at more than its 35,000 b/d capacity, with demand for oil products in Tunisia now exceeding 75,000 b/d. The refinery processes crude oil from Belli and other fields.
Products refined at Bizerte include gasoline, gasoil, fuel oil, LPG, NGL, naphtha and paraffin. LPG is also produced at the Gabes gas processing plant. The refinery's output in 1999 exceeded 2.08 million tons, compared to 1.85 million tons in 1998 and 2.05 million tons in 1997. The output in 1999 included over 600,000 tons of gasoil, 350,000 ...
