Creatin kinase and lactate dehydrogenase levels may indicate early Trypanosoma cruzi infection, according to researchers.

R.C. Cano and colleagues found that the plasma of mice infected with the K-1, X-1, and Tulahuen strains of T. cruzi had higher creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase activity than control mice ("Creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase levels as potential indicators of Trypanosoma cruzi infectivity and histotropism in experimental Chagas' disease," Parasitology Research, 2000;86(3):244-252).

Mice infected with K-1 or X-1 exhibited an earlier creatine kinase activity increase mice than mice ...
