Students at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., have made a fuel cell that makes electricity from hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide, [H.sub.2][O.sub.2], differs from water in that it contains two oxygen atoms. In the Purdue cell it reacts with aluminum to produce current.
Unlike the dilute hydrogen peroxide in your medicine cabinet, which is about 97 percent water, that for fuel cells would have only 3 percent water.
