Mar. 31--You just saved $200 on the cost of your ticket by beginning your two-week trip from the San Francisco airport instead of Monterey. Or so you thought.
With gas prices bubbling up around $1.83 a gallon, it will cost upward of $20 for a round-trip drive to the airport. And, at $12 a day for the first week, long-term parking will cost $84; thereafter, at $15 a day, the second week will consume another $105, totaling $209 -- if the lot has room. Not to mention approximately five extra hours of freeway drive time.
Or, for $30 each way, you could make a reservation on the Monterey/Salinas Airbus. Then, sit back, relax and forget about parking.
