Apr. 4--Governor Gray Davis wants to give Silicon Valley $760 million to run BART trains from Fremont to San Jose, an infusion of cash that would put the long-awaited rail extension on the fast track to reality.
Davis will announce his transportation plan Thursday in the Bay Area, earmarking $5 billion statewide for transit and road upgrades. Of that, the biggest chunk goes to Silicon Valley -- nearly $1 billion -- and the largest share is to extend BART into the South Bay, sources said Monday.
