Back in 1936, we were instructing retailers to sell decorative accessories through the "modern medium" of that decade: radio. In this article from our magazine, writer Joan Vreeland highlighted the advantages of radio advertising and transcribed a radio talk given by industry notable Mary Ryan. Ryan tutored homemakers on the finer points of decorative accessories, explaining that the Depression hadn't dampened the natural human desire for "something lovely to look at."
