FDA's second installment of its cross-country public listening sessions on its food biotechnology review process attracted over 100 speakers to Washington, D.C., last week. It also attracted a couple dozen biotechnology protestors chanting against the back drop of a giant corncob that read "Safety First."

Joseph Levitt, director of FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, said since 1992, the agency has set its policy for regulating foods developed using the tools of biotechnology.
