Patients being treated for leukemia may eventually suffer from iron overload as a result of successful chemotherapy, according to a report issued in the American Journal of the Medical Sciences.
"Our data and those of others suggest that 15 to 20% of adults who are long-term survivors of acute leukemia develop iron overload, often with hepatic abnormalities," said J.C. Baron and L.F. Bertoli in the report.
