Accurate evaluation of a production test system's measurement uncertainty is statistically challenging, yet crucial to maintaining the high quality customers expect.
Test development includes a guardbanding stage, which helps ensure that offsetting errors in the device under test and in the tester don't conspire to pass out-of-spec parts. Guardbanding analysis -- also called the capability/ correlation phase of test development -- involves the study of an ATE system's capability to measure a particular parameter (accuracy) and of its correlation of one measurement with previous measurements (precision).
