New multirole or multifunctional battalions (MFBs) that combine lift, scout and attack helicopters are the cornerstone of the Army aviation modernization plan.
Designed to give the Army greater mission flexibility and the wherewithal to respond quickly to contingencies, these battalions will have 10 RAH-66 Comanches, 10 AH-64D Apaches, 10 UH-60 Black Hawks and two EH-60 special electronic mission helicopters.
