The scene looks peaceful enough today with the 15th century bridge spanning the River Teme just outside Worcester. But in 1642 the first engagement of the English Civil War took place at Powick Bridge with Prince Rupert's cavalry putting Parliamentary so ldiers to flight.
"Some people say the Royalists were lying in wait, others say they were sunbathing," says Mr Gerry Taggart, a former Royal Engineers major living in Powick.
