New registrations of cars carrying the August "S" plate could be close to the record 525,539 total in the same month last year, it was forecast last night.
The last week of the month will be the deciding factor for total sales but in the past years the fourth week has usually resulted in a slow-down of new cars leaving the showrooms.
Official figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders will not be released until September 4 but ...
