With the mission of educating the public on its mind, the US Army Corps of Engineers hosted an open house at Bonneville Dam to do just that, educate the public. The main message: "It's more than just a dam."
The open house highlighted all of the different facets of the hydropower project, which opened in 1938. Those major functions include hydropower, navigation, recreation, irrigation, and fishing.
"This is an opportunity for us to let you know that we're more than just a dam," said Jim Runkles, park manager. "We have construction activities, the huge navigation lock. We've got rangers patrolling the area. We've got recreation both in the visitors ...
