Major changes to the design of the rudders used aboard the Boeing 737 aircraft have been recommended by a powerful US government-appointed engineering panel.

But the FAA is stressing that the likelihood of problems with the rudders are 'very small' and that it is not calling for an immediate correction programme as no safety issues requiring such drastic action have been found.
