Apr. 19--A Monroe cheese plant with about 100 employees is closing because its owner doesn't need the manufacturing capacity.
The plant, owned by Schreiber Foods of Green Bay, makes processed cheese products for fast-food restaurants and the food service industry. Schreiber recently purchased the plant from Beatrice Cheese, a division of ConAgra.
The Monroe facility has increased Schreiber's processed cheese capacity beyond what is needed, said Deborah Van Dyk, the company's director of legal affairs.
