Microsoft Corp. said it purchased a controlling stake in Titus Communications Corp., Japan's second largest cable operator for a reported $1 billion.
Microsoft bought roughly 60 percent from cable company MediaOne Group inc., which is being acquired by AT&T Corp. and shedding international assets.
Microsoft declined to comment on how much it paid for its piece of the company. But Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun business daily said in the fall that MediaOne's stake in Titus was valued at about 100 billion yen ($934.4 million).
