The much talked about Bangkok Transit System Corporation's (BTSC) elevated train, more commonly known as the `Skytrain' was opened by H. M. Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand, on December 5th, his 72nd birthday.
The US$17billion system is unique in the railway world, in that it is the first, fully privately financed railway in the world. One third of the funding is BTSC equity capital.
