Big business: Family and Medical Leave Act is a bitter pill
Business groups continue to oppose the Family and Medical Leave Act as a costly intrusion into the private sector, despite a bipartisan compromise that diluted the bill.
The act was introduced in the House Feb. 3 by Reps. Patricia Schroeder (D., Colo.) and William Clay (D., Mo.) and passed the Education and Labor Committee Nov. 17. It provides unpaid leave for employees who must care for a seriously ill parent or for a newborn, newly adopted or seriously ill child.
