Q. Can you explain what target heart rate is and why it's so important during exercise?
A. Target heart rate is an objective mathematical estimate of your exercise intensity.
It is most often used during aerobic exercise such as running. It can also be used during anaerobic exercise such as sprinting or weight training and in many sports programs.
Target heart rate is based on your age. First, subtract your age from 220 (220 is the estimated maximum heart rate per minute of a newborn.) The answer is your estimated maximum heart rate per minute.
