In the minutes before Evan Lysacek took the ice at the National Figure Skating Championships in February, coach Debbie Stoery told him to attack like a panther.
Nevermind that he was in fifth place after the short program. Nevermind he needed a near-perfect performance and a mathematic miracle to capture the junior crown.

Lysacek, a 14-year-old freshman at Neuqua Valley High School, stepped onto the ice and nailed his free skate. The stirring performance captured the gold medal and made the Naperville teen the first man in 28 years to win the junior crown only a year after winning the novice title.
