Gordon Tech fielded a top-rate baseball team Saturday afternoon against Elgin on Chicago's northwest side.
The setting fell well short of the Rams' standard, though. Playing their season opener, the Rams thumped the Maroons 14-2 in five innings at a venue that was curious, to say the least. Gordon Tech coach Bill Miller and longtime friend and Elgin coach Dave Cooklin opted to keep the game in Chicago despite less-than-ideal conditions.
