While no one can deny the appeal of broad rivers with silken pools and super-selective trout, there's something almost subliminal about the appeal of a small gurgling mountain creek chock full of rainbows, brooks, browns or cutthroats.
Small freestone streams are found across much of the country, from the headwater creeks of the Cascades in the West to the jewels that slice down the Appalachians in the East. They offer a special world of angling where there is no competition with other people; if there are two of you on the same section of stream, it's one too many.
