The new Rose Center for Earth and Space recently opened at New York's American Museum of Natural History. Designed by James Stewart Polshek and Todd H. Schliemann of the New York-based Polshek Partnership Architects, the $210-million center, attached to the museum's north side, looks like a glass cube containing a giant bubble that is white during the day and bathed in blue light at night. The sphere is supported by three pairs of steel columns in such a way that it appears to hover within the structure.
