Apr. 26--Norfolk Southern Corp. wants state taxpayers to help pay for a new railroad bridge that it says could help strengthen the area's distribution and manufacturing sectors.
The railroad hopes to get state money to pay part of the estimated $15 million to $20 million needed to build a new fixed bridge over the Buffalo River. Assemblymen Robin Schimminger, D-Kenmore, and Richard A. Smith, D-Hamburg, have begun the political process that could lead to securing state funding.
Norfolk Southern officials said the railroad would help pay some of the cost, but they have not specified an amount. A new bridge would relieve a choke point at the Buffalo River ...
