Researchers studying a Canadian tertiary care center, found that methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is causing a strain on hospital bed utilization.
J.M. Embil and colleagues from the University of Manitoba conducted a study to "identify demographic characteristics, and determine hospital bed utilization, for providing care for patients identified as being colonized or infected with MRSA."
The researchers determined gender, age, place of residence, ethnicity, and number of isolation days for 107 patients admitted to the Health Sciences Center, Winnipeg, Manitoba between January 1, 1995, and ...
