May 2--A widely anticipated hearing gets under way in a Philadelphia courtroom today to debate a $4.8 billion settlement of thousands of lawsuits that were filed by diet-pill users against American Home Products Corp.
The federal court hearing, which will last several days and feature some of the nation's most prominent legal experts, is expected to attract hundreds of attorneys from around the country, some of whom are expected to argue that the settlement shouldn't be approved.
