It's all too easy to overlook the sheer beauty and diversity of our own land with foreign holiday hot-spots now the annual norm for many families.
Traditional English resorts may have lost much of their appeal - there is nothing quite so miserable as seeking refuge in sea-front fast food cafes and tacky souvenir shops to escape biting winds, driving rain and grey lashing waves - and spending more in a week than on a package trip to Spain.
So, like many others, I largely deserted England, as far as holidays are
concerned, many years ago, but now ...
