Article: Elephant garlic isn't true garlic.

COUNTRYSIDE: We have been developing a crop of elephant garlic for several years, increasing our yield with an objective of commercial sales. So far, the garlic has been doing very well and we are pleased with its response. We especially enjoy cooking with it.

We have two questions regarding elephant garlic which someone may be able to help us with.

First off, we have read numerous times that elephant garlic is not a true garlic, but more closely related to leeks. We have not been able to find out just what makes it more "leek" than "garlic."
