May 5--Kroger is introducing a loyalty card that will give Houston-area grocery shoppers discounts on certain items.
The Kroger Plus Shopper's Card, which has no membership fee, will be in use by next week, said Gary Huddleston, consumer affairs manager for Kroger.
Randalls Food Markets spokeswoman Kathy Lussire declined comment on the Kroger card.
Randalls, Gerland's and other grocers around the nation already have loyalty-type discount cards.
The Kroger card will give shoppers 59 and older an additional 10 percent off Kroger brand foods. Kroger has 6,000 items branded with its private label.
