With the agreement of FIDESZ, the junior coalition Independent Smallholders' Party has nominated Ferenc Madl, a culture minister in Jozsef Antall's government, as president. The 69-year-old law professor was President Arpad Goncz's opponent in the 1995 presidential elections.
