Aseptic packaging hasn't impacted the U.S. retail market to the degree many expected, and the 13th DuPont Awards acknowledge that fact while also saluting the global potential of aseptic.
The 1999 Diamond Award for the most outstanding new plastic packaging went to Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. for a one-gallon PET bottle with a built-in polypropylene handle for easy pouring. The hot-fill bottle was designed by Yoshino America Corp., Park Forest, Ill., and is injection-molded by Yoshino and Continental PET Technologies Inc., Florence, Ky. Ocean Spray is the container's exclusive licensee.
