Brunswick Corp., which makes leisure products ranging from boats to bowling balls, is changing course and hoping for the best.

Brunswick is jettisoning its goal of aggressive diversification and betting that its watercraft and marine engines will continue to sell well even if the economy dives -- a risky wager, say industry analysts, who expect that market to sink if consumer confidence tanks.

"We're going to follow the growth wherever it takes us," says Brunswick CEO Peter N. Larson. "Whatever the mix ends up being, it ends up being."
