Sir John Mortimer's independent group considering the future of the vacant plinth in London's Trafalgar Square, have unanimously recommended it becomes a permanent showcase for high quality British and international sculpture.
Their recommendation, which will be passed by Culture Secretary Chris Smith to the London Mayor, is for a rotating display - changed regularly - celebrating the best of contemporary art.
