When Nedra Adams-Soller first met the man who would become her husband, she found herself looking up at the top of telephone poles in a whole new way.
Rick Soller is a collector of the insulators that sit on top of telephone, telegraph and power lines to keep the wires separated and insulated from the ground.
Today, he has more than 20,000.
"I thought it was off the wall," said Nedra, a professor of speech and communication at the College of Lake County. "I had no idea what insulators were."
She does now.
