FEW TOPICS HAVE BEEN SO often treated as the topic of the Messiah. Jewish scholars like Joseph Klausner dealt with it from a historical perspective by treating the idea of the Messiah in varying contexts, the great mystical scholar Gershom Scholem treated it from the standpoint of mysticism. Because the idea is central to first century Judaism and Christianity and forms part of the reason they went their separate ways the topic has become an important area on which joint research can be done and interfaith discussion proceed.
